Hi, OLLI members and friends! We wanted to update you on an upcoming OLLI event.

On Dec. 3, Greg Gagnon will give a presentation at the Museum of Native American History in Bentonville in an event sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the U of A.

“Native American Conversations: A Brief Discussion of History, Politics and Culture” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum at 202 SW “O” St. The event is free admission and open to the public. All ages are welcome.

A retired American Indian Studies professor, Gagnon will provide a presentation about the historical and contemporary components of the Native American experience in America, including a conversation on the current Standing Rock Tribe protest of the North Dakota pipeline.

He will draw on his experience as a Native American scholar and citizen of the Bad River Chippewa Reservation to highlight the unique status of Indians in the United States and explain Native American cultural values.

Some of the topics will include tribal sovereignty, cultural maintenance today, stereotypes, casinos’ impact, contemporary issues, the diversity of American Indians, and historical events.
