Black Hills of South Dakota – September 2-7
An Appreciation of Western and Native American Cultures, Beautiful American Scenery, and Just A Whole Lot of Fun!

Pre-Requisite Class: August 26, 1:00 pm

Itinerary
September 2
Depart NWA. Travel to Sioux City, Iowa. Enjoy Lewis & Clark Museum; dinner overlooking the Missouri River.

September 3
Travel across South Dakota. Visit Badlands National Park and get a great diorama view of the Black Hills at the South Dakota Visitor’s Center in Rapid City. Spend the next three nights in Rapid City.

September 4
Walk through the Black Hills region, including Native American Heritage and the Journey Museum in Rapid City. Venture into the mountains through Custer State Park. Stops at the Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore granite monuments and for a chuck wagon dinner!

September 5
Travel into Wyoming and drive to Devil’s Tower. Visit the Prairie Dog Village, a general store that has been in operation for 150 years, and Spearfish Canyon, where they filmed the winter scenes from Dances with Wolves. Travel to historic Deadwood, where you’ll have a locally guided tour to see where Wild Bill Hickock was shot by Jack McCall, and hear all about Calamity Jane and the other early adventurers.

September 6
Visit Hot Springs, South Dakota to see the Mammoth Site Archeological Dig, followed by a stop at Fort Robinson State Park. Our overnight is Kearney, Nebraska, where you’ll enjoy seeing the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument.

September 7
Travel begins back to Fayetteville, where we’ll have time for one last party, and everyone gets a present! Lunch at the historic Brookville Hotel in Abilene, Kansas. You’ll be served their famous chicken dinner, family-style, and then it’s home to Arkansas.
