OLLI Socials & SIGs

OLLI members and guest attend the monthly luncheon.

OLLI’s Lunch with Authors & Others meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at Bordino’s Restaurant and Wine Bar on Dickson Street from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. A free crème brulee dessert is awarded to those celebrating a birthday during the month. Our next meeting is Thursday, July 19th. Our featured speaker will be Taylor Bridges, who will speak about potential container deposit laws in AR as well as everyday choices we make and the subsequent impact on our environment. Taylor is a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas. She majored in Psychology and minored in sustainability. Last November she gave a TedXDickson talk here in Fayetteville. Taylor has pledged to spend her life educating, aiding, and inspiring us all to take better care of this magical place we call home. **RSVP by end of day Monday, July 16th to

OLLI’s SIG: Brown Bag and Movies will meet on Friday, July 20th at Drake Airfield, 4500 S. School St., Fayetteville from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Our featured film will be It Happened One Night starring Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. “A spoiled heiress running away from her family is helped by a man who is actually a reporter in need of a story.”

You are invited each month to connect with new and old friends at one of the fun filled OLLI Happy Hour gatherings. Events are held at various locations and are the final Thursday of each month from 5pm – 7 p.m. (Dutch treat). OLLI’s next Happy Hour is scheduled for July 26th and will be at Lambeth Lounge located at the Inn at Carnall Hall on the U of A campus.

The OLLI Current Events SIG meets the last Friday of each month at Bordino’s Restaurant and Wine Bar on Dickson Street from 11:30 until 1:00 pm for lunch and to discuss interesting, fun, and controversial topics that are the news of today. Group members, on a volunteer basis, choose, present, and facilitate discussion on a topic of local, state, national, or international interest. Topics of discussion are usually determined two week prior to the SIG date.
Our current Events SIG topic and discussion leader for July will be Sandy Vetter who will speak on A Small Change for You, A Big Change for the Planet: Meatless Monday. If you aren’t familiar with this movement you will find there is a lot to learn! We, as individuals, can take easy measures to positively affect our environment.
Please RSVP to Beth Edwards at robert.roxanne.edwards@gmail.com that you will or will not be attending.

The OLLI Non-Fiction Book Club meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at Rolling Hills Baptist Church, located at 1400 E. Rolling Hills Drive in Fayetteville, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. For our next meeting, August 7th, we will read Anne Garrels’, Putin Country. This story depicts a much more entertaining slice of life in a typical post-Soviet city. The mostly anecdotal set of stories may not be universally applicable to modern Russia – you have to take the author’s word for that.
