Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Course Proposals Due October 31

Strohmann Breeding   10/23/19

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Arkansas, is seeking instructors and course proposals for the impending Spring 2020 term.

Established at the U of A in 2007, OLLI provides an avenue for adults to convene for a variety of stimulating courses, special events and social activities. It is based in the College of Education and Health Professions.

With nearly 100 course offerings each semester, OLLI instructors can be as diverse as the courses themselves. If you are an avid learner and are well-versed in your field or simply a hobbyist, then OLLI is the place for you! Instructors include current or retired University of Arkansas faculty as well as distinguished community members and other experts. Ideal candidates also include graduate students and doctoral candidates actively pursuing independent research ventures they would like to share.

Teaching with OLLI is a rewarding experience unlike any other.

“Great, excellent staff, excellent students.  The students want to be there,” said OLLI instructor Malcolm Cleaveland, “They ask great questions, keep you on your toes. The other volunteers are a joy to work with.” Former OLLI “Volunteer of the Year,” Clarice Cox, said, “My favorite memory is seeing the enthusiastic response of participants as they enjoy classes we have planned and implemented. Many people no longer are comfortable travelling alone or making personal social plans; but they do enjoy the camaraderie created on OLLI trips and also the socialization in the classroom.”

It is common for OLLI instructors to donate their instructional time to OLLI and have the option to use OLLI courses as community service toward tenure. Teaching for OLLI provides instructors a unique opportunity to present and engage adults in an ideal learning environment, poised for in-depth discussions.

Course proposals are reviewed twice a year, the deadlines are October 31 for spring courses and April 30 for fall courses. If you enjoy teaching and sharing your knowledge with others, contact OLLI at 479-575-4545 or email olli@uark.edu for more information.
